Congratulations to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus

Dropping out after the 4th ballot, former RNC Chairman Michael Steele was replaced by Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus on January 14, 2011.

Priebus received 97 votes in the 7th round, 13 more than the required 85 votes needed to win, with former Michigan GOP Chairman, Saul Anuzis finishing second with 43 votes and former RNC official Maria Cino coming in third with 28 votes.

Steele and Speaker of the House John Boehner, both backed Cino, but their support was not sufficient to overcome the Prebius lead.  By the 6th round of voting Priebus already had 80 votes and needed just 5 more to win.

One Response to Congratulations to RNC Chairman Reince Priebus

  1. Richard Walrath says:

That doesn’t look good for Speaker John Boener. I
wonder if Steele’s support turned out to be a negative factor. Did it work against Cino?
